Notes - Sevath Ellendson Boyum was born on April 27, 1840 on the Boyum farm in Fj'e6rland, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. He came to U.S in 1856 (Migration database says 4/16/1856) at the age of 16 with his father, mother and brother, Ole where they met up with his older brother, Arne, who was a minister who came to Minneapolis in 1853 and started a church at Arendahl (named for him). Arne later officiated at the wedding of Sevath and Caroline (Kari) Johnsdatter Langeteig. They had twelve children though only ten grew to adulthood. Sometime after arriving in the U.S., Sevath with his father and brothers, went to St. Paul to have their name changed to avoid confusion with numerous other Ellendsons., MN where he ran a store. In 1881, they moved and helped found Mayville, ND where he opened the first general store and his daughter, Anna was the first marriage. From 1895 to 1901, most of the family migrated again to Jennings, Louisiana where they farmed rice and ran several irrigation businesses. It was here that Sevath and Kari, and many of their children and grandchildren passed away and are buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
